Great local sushi restaurant not enough people know about, but then again, I wouldn't want to lose the quaint and peaceful atmosphere. Amazing and authentic menu, beautifully crafted and presented along with some smooth jazz and one suave good looking server boy. This is the spot for sushi in Fort Lauderdale. Don't drive past it!

We love sushi, and this is the best we have had in Florida... The fish is very fresh and flavorful, we have a hard time ordering here since we want to eat everything in the menu, we've tried a good portion of it and found everything to be delicious... The staff is very friendly and the service is great.

If you are a sushi lover, there is no way to go wrong with this place! Small, cozy, fresh ingredients, creativity and kindness. They just open in Fort Lauderdale and I'm thrilling! Tuna Tower is really good, and big, as app easily can be share between 2 to 4 people Heart of Japan is besides pretty very tasty, Caliente roll is fried and spice with real jalapeno, I had another one that I can't remember the name, is covered in avocado and it melts in your mouth, soo good! Go go go! You will not regret!

Started off with a bump as we had reservations for 7; we walked in and no table was ready -- seemed like they had totally spaced on the reservation. Strange. Second issue is the decor: the carpet is dirty to an extreme and needs a total replacement. The Yelp photos make this seem like a hip, large place; it's really a tiny neighborhood sushi joint. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but don't expect lots of atmosphere. We started with three different sakes, all of which were excellent - try the unfiltered for sure. Then the food-- WOW. Top freaking notch. Cucumber salad? Refreshing. Tuna poke? The best. Tofu soufflé? Bam it was great! They have a focused menu, but everything we had was terrific. Hamachi with jalapeño was well made and fresh. As a side note, it took way too long for my son's chicken katsu (off menu) to come out; they need to be somewhat more respectful of the little ones. In addition, we waited for a lot of "dinners" to come out; the coordination was poor and the meals slow, but they only had one dude making sushi. I suggest they hire a sushi assistant. The heart of japan roll was super unique / Highly recommended. Slow service but really due to lack of sufficient chefs; but they make it up with amazing food!

Wonderful atmosphere in this tucked away sushi place that I caught a bite at with two friends. We came on a Sunday just as it opened for dinner, so while the dishes were coming a bit slowly due to the restaurant only having one sushi chef, we were never frustrated because our server was always very attentive and likable. We ordered quite a bit, but I really do recommend their route-66 roll, dragon roll, and spider roll. I was also pleasantly surprised by the house noodles and red bean ice cream. A bit underwhelmed by the gyoza and spicy tuna roll but those were minor details. All in all wonderful place with great fare, decent prices and exceptional service. Would definitely recommend!

A very important point for me is the ability to find a vegetarian option among the dishes that are offered in a restourant and at Masamune it was not a problem: vegetable rolls, miso soup and brown rise were just awesome! The interior was nice too. There is a couple points to improve though: wait time could be shorter and it also could be warmer inside!

This was my second visit to Masamune. I could not wait to return and wasn't disappointed. The restaurant is friendly and intimate. Everything we ordered was delicious. The price unexpectedly inexpensive, especially for the quality. I can't wait to return on my next visit to Ft Lauderdale. One of my favorite restaurants in So. Florida.

Sushi is always consistently delish! Ingredients are fresh and staff is very friendly. Restaurant is small (just like the original in Deerfield Beach) and not a bad location but I've never seen it busy. But I'm okay with that - never a long wait for my order. I highly recommend this place - not very many in Broward or the Palm Beaches can compete!

I love good-quality sushi and even though there is a wide variety of good Florida fish, I have found the quality of most Ft. Lauderdale sushi restaurants to be just OK. Masamune is a delightful standout. I placed my sashimi order directly with the sushi chef and mentioned that I had "Japanese-taste" in my sushi/sashimi choices. I love fresh, good quality, non-pickled mackerel, uni and sweet shrimp. I ordered a very nice bottle of Karatumba cold sake ($15). The chef prepared an octopus sunonomo appetizer ($8), a flavorful combination of par-boiled sliced octopus w pickled cucumber, garnished with finely shredded carrot and daikon. My sushi plate (reasonable @ $24) included raw scallop, mackerel, shredded par-boiled squid, fluke, salmon and a buttery excellent-quality raw tuna, just slightly below toro-grade tuna. The simply adorned sashimi plate surprisingly included a few shiso leaves, which are usually only served in the best quality American sushi restaurants. If you have never eaten shiso, try it wrapped around any piece of raw fish and you will be surprised at its exquisite flavor. I also ordered two pieces of uni sushi ($10), which was perfect. A small bowl of brown rice came with my dinner. The most unusual accompaniment was a small serving of a salty, slightly hot garnish, topped with scallions. The chef told me it is eaten with any white fish instead of the usual soy/wasabi sauce. In my 30 years eating sushi, I have never seen this unusual condiment before. Masamune makes their own soy sauce and their own green tea and red bean ice creams. The green tea ice cream was the best I have ever eaten! The ice cream was loaded with green tea and the slight bitterness of the tea contrasted perfectly with the sweetness of the ice cream. The red bean ice cream was also delicious. My entire meal cost $68 (before tip). The same dinner would cost me $100 to $120 in New York City or Boston. Service was friendly, attentive and low-key. I recommend Masamune to anyone who loves sushi/sashimi.

I am a big sushi lover so I feel confident to give a review on quality and this place had it. I was a little disappointed they didn't have white tuna/escolar as that is one of the main reasons I love sushi. But other than that it was fresh and beautiful. Service was quick, especially since we were only one of three couples. But my partner and I both enjoyed the Gyoza, dragon roll, spicy salmon till and tuna crunch roll. For dessert we had the tempura cheesecake. They ran out of ice cream but I was fine with it although they should've discounted the dessert in principle. Anyway, it is a little sleepy on atmosphere but very clean and modern design. Definitely go back.

Yoshi was great. Found this place through living social glad we did, it's hard to find authentic style Japanese food here, many are a mixture of other styles. The presentation was excellent, portions generous and price right.

I had dinner there last evening with a friend, and it was odd that there was only one other couple in the place. The service was top notch. Our waitress was very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. However, the food unfortunately was very mediocre. My friends special roll was OK. Definitely freshly made, but not much taste. My Tuna Takaki tasted fresh and was pretty good, but the 4 pieces of sushi, the CA roll, and the spicy tuna don all tasted like they had been made hours earlier. A little dried on top with a slight refrigerator taste. The rice was also a little dry, and simply not fresh tasting. The service was so good, and I always like to patronize a new restaurant, so I will definitely give it another try.....probably for lunch.

Took my girlfriend here for her birthday last night. Chose Masamune because of the sterling reviews. I'm glad to say they were highly accurate. The sushi was outstanding. Chef Mike is very talented and a great guy. My girlfriend, who is quite the sushi queen, thought it was outstanding, easily in the top five sushi restaurants she had ever eaten at. I had the shrimp tempura rolland the US 1 roll. both were delicious. She had the rainbow roll and several individual pieces of sushi. She loved it all. It was a great birthday dinner. The place is very comfortable and quiet, almost serene. They played great music. We plan on going back often. Without doubt the best sushi in Ft Lauderdale.

Masamune is little gem of unexpected excellence serving some of the best Japanese creations in southern Florida in a space once occupied by one of our favorite dining spots in southern Florida , Cafe Shariku. When we arrived at Masamune expecting to find Shariku , our disappointment was short lived as a series of wonderful Japanese creations arrived at our table..... We decided to sample several appetizers as a late night snack, some of which were suggested by are wonderful waitress Michelle.... Curiously we were the only patrons in this relatively small 11 or 12 table restaurant... The time was late and we weren't expecting very much.... A wonderful spicy squid salad arrived on the scene followed by another spicy calamari dish entirely different from the spicy squid salad composed of lightly fried strips of squid in a very flavorful spicy, but not too spicy sauce... We then realized we were not dealing with your ordinary run of the mill Japanese sushi spot... 2 additional appetizers were ordered, as recommended by our waitress... Mainly the thinly sliced yellow tail garnished with a lime ponzu sauce and jalapenos. Finally we finished of our meal with the "Big Eye" , extremely fresh tuna in a sweet and spicy sauce.. The portions were generous, not leaving enough room for any of the main entrees.... Of course we will have to return to see what other dishes this creative Japanese spot has to offer. Michelle, are wonderful waitress gave us a take out menu recommending the following dishes : lobster teriyaki, tuna tower, shrimp tempura with avocado, et cetera.... Of course we will be back. I would have considered offering Masamune 5 stars, except for the fact that I returned to its sister restaurant at Deerfield Beach in order to try the recommended Lobster terayaki...we found that this lobster dish was bit "dry & tough" which brought my rating down one star. Will return with gusto and great expectations.

Masamune has become our favorite Sushi spot in Fort Lauderdale. We eat Sushi often, and know them all. Masamune combines just the right ingredients; excellent sushi, attentive service, appealing presentations, great atmosphere and reasonable price. It seems just right sized. We've joined their frequent flyer/ loyalty program that earns a credit each time we dine at Masamune. For us, the location is great and very convenient. It is easy to miss first time there. Northbound on Federal and north of NE 26th ST, it is the 1st driveway just past McDonalds. Extra parking is in the back.

The sushi at Masamune is the best around. In a competitive market of many sushi restaurants in Fort Lauderdale, that is saying a lot. The ambiance is quiet, intimate, and very welcoming. The decor creates an authentic Japanese experience. A friendly staff, attentive service, and reasonably priced meals make for a winning combination. Their "bonus card" is a nice reward offering money back on frequent dining. My only criticism is the minimal wine list, with the Chardonnay still listed on the menu, but unavailable with no comparable replacement. This "somewhat hidden" spot is definitely worth putting on your GPS.

Back at our condo in Ft. Lauderdale we decided to go out for sushi Monday night. Glad my spouse remembered Masamune! We got there a little after 6 to discover there were "happy hour" specials until 7 -- beer and hot sake, gyoza and shumai and a few other appetizers all half price, plus buy 2 get one free on all the rolls on the menu! And Monday is double points night on their frequent diner rewards -- can't do better than this! We ordered drinks and received a small ramekin of the house noodles in a light dashi style sauce. My Ozeki Yamadanishiki Junmai sake was served chilled on ice in an attractive ceramic pot. Our thoughtful server brought 2 glasses for the sake, which my partner was very happy to share with me. Her Sapporo was served icy cold with a chilled mug.We started with the pan fried gyoza and steamed shumai, half orders of each and then ordered rolls -- three, of course -- softshell crab, spicy tuna, and on the advice of our server, the US 1, which is shrimp tempura and avocado that melts in your mouth. For dessert we decided to follow another suggestion from our server, who usually manages the Deerfield location, and ordered the deep-fried cheesecake. You might think you have had this at other restaurants, but try it here! A slice of real cheesecake, graham cracker crust and all, lightly battered Japanese style and quickly fried so it was crispy on the outside, then creamy inside and still frozen in the very center. Served with ice cream and whipped cream, this is truly an over the top dessert. This spot is a real gem for sushi in Ft. Lauderdale -- go early, go often!

Great happy hour deal- $25 for your choice of 3 signature rolls before 7 pm. We ordered the KC, MoMo, Heart of Japan, and Masume 55. All were good, but the Heart of Japan and the Masume 55 were showstoppers. Definite "come back again" place.

I went here last night for dinner. The place was calm with light music playing in the background. Our server, the receipt said Adam, was A+ as far as service goes. He was attentive but not overbearing, which is important when dining, particularly when you're exhausted. If you don't want to read the whole review, know that we are picky with our Japanese spots and both agree we will definitely come back here. Anyway, we began with the edamame hummus, the 4 oz steak teriyaki, and the cucumber and crab salad (we know it as the kani salad, but i forgot what this restaurant calls it). The hummus was served with wonton chips. I would give it an 8 out of 10. It was a neutral flavor but VERY addictive (hint: put some on your sushi roll if you have any left over). The salad was great. It was well-seasoned and light. An easy 9 out of 10. The steak! We had it cooked medium rare (bc this is the only way steak should be eaten). It was veryyy tasty. The sauce was good, the cut was great, and it didn't give the usual heaviness one may feel after eating steak. 10 out of 10 on the steak! For our rolls, we ordered the Desperado and the US1. The Desperado had shrimp tempura, asparagus, spicy mayo and eel on top. The shrimp tempura was lightly done which is awesome given all of our appetizers. The roll was certainly larger than some other spots. Although it wasn't my roll to order, my friend gives it a 9 out of 10 (he is very picky bc we recently tried another sushi spot and he is slightly biased). The US1 was shrimp tempura, avocado, and avocado, eel sauce and spicy mayo on top of the roll. I think it also had cucumber inside. Although I am also biased from the other sushi place, I give this roll a 10 out of 10. It was everything I wanted, a large portion, and well priced. For dessert, I had the green tea mochi ice cream. Absolutely delicious! I give it a 10, but wish they mentioned they were going to put whipped cream on top. Our bill came out to about $45 after a 10% check in discount from Yelp, which means it was about $50 i initially. I would have probably paid a bit more if the costs were higher because of the fresh quality. I will definitely be dining here again!

Great place for sushi! This place has it all! Great ambience, great service, and most of all........amazing food! The sushi offered here, is not just the traditional rolls and raw fish. They offer things on special I have never seen in a sushi place! I got to try two fish I've never had before!!! I tried Japanese Sea Bream, and Hawaiian Barracuda!!! Both were excellent! I will definitely be back!!!

Last weekend a friend and I had dinner at the restaurant. I went there based on Yelp reviews....I ordered shumai as appetizer, which was excellent and the sushi shashimi dinner platter,, the salad and soup were very good..BUT The shashimi was warm and watery and both my friend and I commented that it wasn't very good after we left...later that night I felt sick as if I had food poisoning...took something for it and didn't think anything of it until the next time I spoke to my friend who said he also got sick.... It is probably incidental based on the reviews I saw, but bad sushi makes for a bad night ...

Late night sushi craving... decided to pop in tonight for a few quick bites. We've driven by here plenty of times before. The restaurant is in a tiny plaza and hidden in between a McDonald's and futon place, we were pleasantly surprised at how nice and modern the interior was. We were definitely not expecting that. Walking in, we were immediately greeted by the sushi men behind the sushi counter. Then immediately greeted by a waitress and seated. We only ordered some basic items: miso soups, a sashimi platter, spicy tuna roll, and a spicy salmon roll. Being that my brother is a sushi man, I am very picky about my sushi and where I get it. The sashimi set the right tone for me. ... the fish, especially the salmon was so fresh and delicious! I can't wait to come back to try other sushi rolls on the menu... we went here on a whim... I recommend others to come try it out.

Very neat little gem hidden between the McDonald and the Futon ... The service was amazing... I ordered a very nice Sake, we ordered the edamame with kimchi sauce very nicely flavored not to spicy...we ordered one fried Salmon roll, heart of Japan roll and one US1 roll ...very recommend!!!

I really like this place. Sure, the menu isn't the biggest and yes I've had better sushi elsewhere...but -- the happy hour specials can't be beat. And the sushi I have had here is tasty. Super nice staff, and never a wait to get a seat. I'll keep coming back!

I can't believe this place is in Fort Lauderdale! The best sushi and sashimi I have ever had... I live in LA and work in NYC, I have had sushi prepared by some of the best sushi chefs in the country. This is as good or better than any of those overpriced ass-bags. Add to that a pleasant easy going staff and relaxed atmosphere and you got yourself a very reasonably priced, delicious BULLSEYE Recommended: Heart of Japan; KC roll; Salmon Sashimi and Tuna Nigiri. Also... How come they're in a frikki strip mall??? Please clone yourselves and move to LA. And NYC. And London. And. And. And....

I was invited by the owner of the restaurant and he recommended "Omakase" which is the Chef makes Sushi Special meal set from appetizer to main sushi to ice cream. It was amazingly selected and best sushi I ever eaten. The fish was fresh and high quality. The Chef was so professional and he chose only the good sushi. Best food and reasonable price. I will come back for sure.

Masamune has been on my radar for a while now, and since we were both craving sushi and our usual spot is still closed for a few more days (they went on a family vacation to Japan) I figured this was a good chance to check out somewhere new. We arrived on a Saturday night at ~8:30pm to an empty restaurant. Not a great sign but I was determined to follow through, and I knew my Yelpers wouldn't let me down. The service was of course very attentive, as he didn't have much else to do lol, but a few others trickled in to eat as we were leaving. The menu was a little bit smaller than I'm used to. Appetizers, cooked entrees ($20+) and sushi rolls. The rolls themselves were decently priced at $10 being the mean price for most of the specialty rolls. The entrees though seemed a little expensive, especially for this type of restaurant and location. The appetizers covered all their bases and spanned all price ranges ($4 for a side salad is too much though!). We opted to try the age tofu appetizer, the miso soup and the tuna tataki to start. The miso and the tuna were good, but nothing out of the ordinary... the age tofu was wonderful though and less deep fried than any other age tofu I've ordered before. Definitely the winner of the night. For entrees we chose to do a few pieces of sashimi - tuna, octopus and salmon and a KC roll. Both were good (carb-less) options and the freshness of the sashimi was apparent. Overall I'd give the food a strong 3.5, especially when considering the prices, but the ambiance of Masamune is driving me up to 4 stars. It's really a beautiful (small) restaurant inside with just enough flair to make it something special. I often see Groupons for Masamune and I loved the "frequent flyer" card they gave us at the end....I wish my local sushi spot rewarded me for coming so often!

Came here for lunch today. I have to say I've been to a lot of sushi places in broward and this little place wins. I had the masa bento and ahi poke. Everything is really fresh and tasted amazing. I'm really critical on sushi rice and the rice was perfect!

Service is so great, they genuinely welcome you and care about your experience, you feel like family. If something is not perfect they will make it so. Both locations fantastic and Delivery Dudes can bring it to us at school! Get the Japanese curry:)

I dined here this past Saturday after making a last minute reservation for Omakase with chef Yoshi. I had been communicating with him via Instagram after learning about his place through chef Takeshi Kamioka of Gaysha. I am an avid fan of Japanese food since I studied the language and culture and have had the pleasure of dining at some of the best restaurants in Tokyo. Masamune FTL is located where cafe Sharaku used to be and it's a very nice and intimate location. I sat at the bar and was greeted by chef Yoshi himself. If you've never ordered omakase before it's typically customary to allow the chef to guide the food for the evening and any and all dietary restrictions should be presented to the chef beforehand. It's typically better to give the chef a few days notice so that the chef can custom select ingredients particular to your dining reservation. Let's get on with the review! I had an excellent experience with chef Yoshi. The food was superb and varied. Chef Yoshi has a knack for fusing together classic Japanese cuisine with contemporary style to make a truly unique and enjoyable dining experience. You can come here for the regular rolls and sushi as any other place, but if you want to experience the true capability of chef Yoshi, then I suggest doing a custom omakase dinner. I even got a free glass of malbec to compliment my last course which was 4 day aged rack of lamb (it was amazing!!) I split a bottle of sake with chef Yoshi and we chatted the whole night whilst he prepared food for me. All in all it was a fantastic experience and I would definitely dine here again. I think a really cool and interesting perk of this place is their reward card program, it's unique and a great idea and it comes as no cost to you!

Started with the garlic edamame and tuna tower- both very tasty. Went with the heart and spicy tuna roll. Although it was great, we waited for over an hour for the rolls to arrive. It seemed that they only had one sushi chef on staff. Overall, very good food but the wait time hampered it from being a 5 star meal.

Looks are deceiving. Read the reviews here and that's why we came. This place lives up to the hype. Sushi was so fresh. Prepared well. Real Japanese owners and chefs (no offense to the non- ones out there). I totally wish they had one of these in Orlando. I'd be here every other day

This is a temporary 1 star. I'm not mad it's just this was a major sushi dinner fail. I will be back. It's 815pm after a crazy busy Sunday in the ER and all I wanted to do is drown myself in some Sapporo and Toro tuna. I had never been to this sushi option and it was fairly close to my home with amazing reviews. I park my car in the back , walk in , table for one ( too cranky to sit at a sushi bar) and the hostess came and told me : " I'm very sorry but we have only 1 chef on Sunday and it will be over an hour wait " I paused for a minute ... 1 hour would be too many beers get home. Ok , thanks but no thanks. I turned around and went home. Cheesecake and bourbon on the sofa it is. I'll be back. But hopefully not to wait an hour for my food. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I was given great suggestions and WOW , I was able to have all that I wanted from a salad, soup, a Shrimp Tempura Hand Roll . It had avocado massage ,o my it was yummy. Meet the chef and his lovely wife. II was able. To switch things around I Was able to have a California Roll w/ Volcano topping amazing the flavor is on spot. I can't believe I didn't find this location Fort Lauderdale sooner . Run don't walk . It comes up on you fast off Federal Hwy.

Had dinner there one night last week while visiting a friend in FLL. We went because they had the BEST Yelp ratings! Well-deserved, I might add. The service was stellar. I THINK this might be a family owned restaurant because our waitress seemed so nice and friendly, as well as very knowledgeable about everything. Upon arriving, and being seated, we were each presented with little noodle bowls with an Asian sauce - an amuse-bouche of sorts! Such a nice touch and we arrived starving so this was particularly appreciated on this night! The food was fresh and absolutely perfectly prepared and presented. I had two tempura rolls one soft shell crab and one shrimp (Pacific Roll and Desparado Roll); my friend had some teriyaki salmon and I also had the seaweed salad, we each had absolutely delicious WHITE plum wine, I also had an appetizer from the specials board up in front of the restaurant, however I had two glasses of the plum wine and can't remember what else I had to eat that night!! It doesn't take much for my brain to go on sabbatical, but we both absolutely LOVED this restaurant and if I were back in FLL at this moment I would drive there right this minute and have seconds of everything I dined on that night! My friend, whose husband is a sushi aficionado, said she would be bringing him too. If you have a difficult time finding the place, or drive down Federal Highway too quickly, keep your eyes open for a futon store, right next door. One sign reads FUTONS and the other SUSHI. Yummmmmmm.

We had lunch here one day during our vacation week in FLL due to the Yelp reviews. The service was great, sushi was fresh, everything tasted excellent, and was a nice experience. With no drinks our bill was around $20 and I had leftovers to take with me.

Lunch specials are so affordable and delicious. Hunter is the best server! They are the only place around with yellowtail jaw...give it a shot. Everything is fresh and tasty.

After over a year of fellow friend and Yelper Fiorella A. posting pictures of the beautifully presented sushi meals at Masamune I finally made it out to this sushi joint by joining her for lunch here one day last week. It was such a nice change from my usual sushi location which is up the road on US-1. The atmosphere is very quaint and quiet which I loved, especially when you're catching up with a friend you haven't seen in a while, as was my case during the visit. Our server Hunter was spot on and never missed a beat, whether it was needing more water or clearing space for us at the bar. To start I ordered their green salad which was a perfect portion to get my meal started. Per Fiorella's recommendation for rolls I went with the US-1 roll with no rice and it was melt in your mouth delicious. Between the food, service and friendliness of the owner and staff I was an immediate fan of Masamue. Plus, they have their own rewards program in which you can earn "cash back" or money off future meals! If you're ever in the area I highly suggest stopping in and giving them a try.

Masamune isn't at all typical of Japanese restaurants you might generally find in the area, or for that matter, in the United States. The food served here is just about as authentic Japanese in preparation, flavor and texture as you can get, without compromise toward what is typically found in sushi bars or those with an Asian Fusion bent. I made my order, but was first presented with a noodle dish, which was both delightfully subtle as well as interesting, and though I was not given a name for it, most closely resembled a Ramen. Then, my salad along with a miso soup. The salad was a light leafy mixture topped with a thick creamy base of dressing that I perceived as having distinctive ginger overtones. The miso I found to also be distinctive in that it contained far more flavors along with a much better balance between them than any other miso soups I've had since being in Japan. I also had the crab cake, which are not actually crab cakes in the way a Westerner might think of them, but in keeping with what is truly Japanese, more akin to being large crab balls, served with a rich, creamy butter-yaki sauce. For my entrée, better described in my pictures, attached, rather than through my words, a sashimi plate that consisted of the freshest best possible assortment of cuts from the belly of tuna, salmon, snapper and what I think may have been, though I'm not sure, of a hog grouper. What was a pleasant surprise was their soy which had a far more delightful flavor than any other soy I've had in the area and upon inquiry found it to be their house, homemade. The only problem I see isn't with the restaurant but the parking since you'll find that, unless the Futon store next door is closed, there are only about five spaces with one of those being handicap designated.

I decided to check this place out based on some solid reviews from fellow Yelpers. I am glad I did because the food was great and prices very reasonable. My husband and I started the meal with two salads with ginger dressing, hot green tea, and an order of gyoza. We were given the option to have them steamed, pan fried, or deep fried. We went with a pan fry. They seemed a tiny bit undercooked so maybe I would try them a different way next time. We also split the Hamachi Jalapeno. It is a winner!! Ultra delicious with just the right amount of acidity and spice. EAT THIS! We both ordered one roll each to complete the feast. My husband had the soft shell crab roll and I had the rainbow. Our hot tea was promptly refilled and although there was just one server handling all the tables we didn't notice an issue with getting anything we needed promptly. The appetizers, hamachi, and rolls came out well timed.

Great friendly service. Fresh sushi. Very intimate and a great place to relax. No load music. The wait staff remembers what you like. Good place to unwind after a busy day at work.

Not much options for dinner entree. Specializes more in sushi. Tried the Hamachi Jalapeño appetizer and it was good however the Ramen and Udon was quite disappointing. If your looking for raw food it was pretty good. But if you ask me not worth the price. I would've given this place a 4 stars review but I had to knock a star off since I didn't get pork with my Ramen it came with only 5 bites of noodles, broth, and 5 pieces of corn.

Why 5 stars? Compared to many of the sushi places in the area Masamune is head and shoulders above the rest. Three of us dined in there last night and it was excellent. Starting with the 9 piece sashimi appetizer, chefs choice, which was a delightful combo of tuna, hamachi, king fish, salmon. Salmon was particularly succulent as well as the tuna. Miso soup and seaweed salad. Followed up by some of the best rolls ever. I would recommend the Lobster and Momo. The place is clean and the service is great. Don't settle for the Asian combo of something and sushi or sushi and something. Masamune is authentic without the high dollar authenticity.

Having just finished what practically has been my 10th or 12th bowl of ramen, I find myself pressed to actually review this place. Tl;Dr: I don't have pictures of food at this place because I was never able to hold back my appetite long enough to make pulling out my phone and taking a Fucking picture worth it. Maybe in the future. Gosh, where do I even start. I guess we'll start with the ramen. I've tried Geisha, Gobistro(which is also excellent), and some of the NYC ramen joints including Ippudo and Momofuku's noodle bar. Those are my benchmarks, and while I may get some glares from some of you Japanese food enthusiasts, I'm no expert, but it does give some background on my ramen palate. This place, in my opinion, is by far my favorite place to grab Japanese fare. Service (Jimmy, Akane, YOSHIIII!!, and Kenny) are all some of the coolest and friendly people. If dishes take a while to come out, sometimes one of the sushi chefs will throw in a small appetizer. I sit at the sushi bar. The most amazing people show up here. It's always fun and entertaining. The people here are always strangers, but by the end of dinner, EVERYONE makes you feel like family. Kind of hard to spot, as it looks extremely small, generic, and undecorated outside. Interior decor is quite decent. The food is always delicious, their tempura is always on point, and their menu is actually quite varied but still all prepared flawlessly. Not only with attention to taste, but aesthetic as well. Their sushi creations are brilliant. I usually get the US1 and The tonkatsu ramen. The ramen can have a variety of toppings if you know what you're looking for. Corn, tonkatsu, and nori come standard. The US1 has tempura shrimp, avocado, spicy mayo, and just a whole bunch of goodies I can't remember without looking at. They also offer funky Buddha's hop gun, which happens to be one of my favorite beers (a sofla microbrewery). It's weird. I will admit I haven't eaten at the tables. But I'm sure it'd be just as good. If you're looking for an absolutely amazing Japanese restaurant.... Look no further.

I loooooooove this place. I'm glad I found it. I always take out, but thus time I ate in and the service was pretty good. No complains about servers. Only thing, tho, the food did took longer than another sushi restaurants. I will say too long if you are hungry Just work a little more on that and it will be perfect!

On two visits the food has been excellent and the value at lunch is superb. The Masa box features a 4oz salmon teriyaki, four sushi pieces, a California Roll (8pc), noodles, soup, and salad for $10.95. Everything has been perfectly fresh with the flavors being as good or better than I expected. Normally the service is usually the soft spot in ethnic restaurants but each time the server has been either at our table or standing at attention nearby rather than disappearing into the bus station to text their friends. This is located near a lot of businesses and I highly recommend it for lunch. The dinner menu is also reasonable. My next step is to try the Heart of Japan sushi meal.

First things first you MUST try the "Heart Of Japan Roll"! (Don't forget some yummy Spicy Mayo and Eel Sauce on the side!) The atmosphere is relaxingly cozy, intimate, and bubbly. I've been a happy regular customer in there for months now and have a bonus rewards card! I usually find myself sitting at the sushi bar. The Chefs at the bar are always there to greet you with a warm smile and are so pleasantly charming and talkative. They're very passionate and take pride in making you a yummy authentic Japanese dish. They're always ready to chat with you about making your dish as delicious as possible and just about anything as well! The food is always fresh and you are getting your money's worth with every visit! I've never had better sushi anywhere else (and I'm a big fan of it) The abundance of exotic flavors in each dish will leave you wanting to order more and more! Don't forget to sample some Mochi Ice Cream (Strawberry and Black Sesame are my personal favorites as flavors) after your scrumptious entrée!

I'm posting specifically regarding their ramen. What a joke... I'm not a big eater but I finished the noodles in 4 bites. Ordered extra noodles to actually get close to a full stomach and it was an extra $3. Total of $15 for a ramen that barely filled me up. Disappointing.

As a native Floridan,I know exceptional sushi when I eat and Masamune is truly the BEST sushi restaurant in South Florida. I and many others would consider myself a sushi connoisseur and I've frequent many sushi restaurants but the atmosphere, staff, and food at Masamune is remarkable! I drive a almost an hour twice a week (or more) just to sit at the bar, chat with the cook, and devour sushi! Thank you for the great experience. -Melissa

These guys are vastly under-discovered...which makes me want to promote them! Starting with the space...just a mini strip-mall type of storefront on Federal Hwy just north of 26th St...careful, you can miss it...unless you know to look for the street-side sign that advertises Futons and Sushi in the same breath (I almost feel like donating some time to help them with their marketing!). The inside is nice though....more time and effort put into the aesthetics (decent lighting, music, etc) than most small sushi places bother to do. They have one sushi bar of 8-10 stools and another 40+ seats...so it's not tiny. The staff is super nice, and not in that fake way you can sometimes get at ethnic restaurants...our server couldn't have been more than 18YO, so I don't think she'd know how to be jaded yet even if she wanted to be...in any case, she wasn't...genuinely sweet, as were the guys working the sushi line. The food and beverage menus are great....lots of choices (wine and beer both...plus specialty cocktails) and some creative concoctions, particularly on the sushi side. We went with a lot of traditional stuff (always a good way to judge a sushi place, I feel) and everything held up well to scrutiny, from the miso soup to the house salad with ginger dressing to the pan-fried gyoza. We branched out a little with the sushi, trying some specialty rolls like the Heart of Japan (tuna and avocado) that included a tuna and eel sauce that was out of this world...really one of the best rolls I've had in a long time. Also had some more traditional sushi like a Spider Roll(soft shell crab - great!) and a Crunchy Tuna (eh - take that one or leave it). We also had some decent wine (including a NZ Sauvignon Blanc), sake and the big cans of Sapporo...great line up of beverages! Really the only downside to our visit is that the place is still sooo undiscovered...a total of six ppl in the heart of a Saturday night -what a shame! I know the location isn't perfect, but this place should be doing better...and given that they've had a sister restaurant in Deerfield for 20 years tells me they know how to run a business...I think they just need to get up to speed on thier markeitng, because there was nothing wrong with the experience! Oh, I saved the best for last...this place is a BARGAIN!! Seriously, soup for $2, salad for $3, gyoza for $5...sake for $5??! Ridiculous good value...please try it and enjoy!

Very good sushi and excellent service. We had the hamachi jalapeño to start and it was awesome. The rolls and sushi are great - spicy tuna was so good. It is such a friendly atmosphere with incredible food that I am wanting go back tonight and will recommend to friends. I never get dessert but the ice cream sampler was amazing.

I have very high standards when it comes to sushi. I'm not a fan of "kitchen sink" rolls that include flavored mayonnaise and sometimes cream cheese. I like a word variety of pristine fresh fish served with we'll balanced and carefully crafted sauces. We found this restaurant on Yelp. Arrived on Saturday night in a rain storm, parking was easy, my wife and I hardly got wet running inside. We sat at the sushi bar and chatted with the sushi chef asking him what he had that was very fresh. After enjoying the amuse bouche we agreed on a live scallop that was beautifully prepared on its shell halfs. On one shell half the scallop was thinly sliced on a bed of delicate filigree seaweed, on the side the remainder of the scallop was broiled on the shell - a little challenging for my wife. Next course was a surf clam. A surf clam is the size of the quahog, it was cut and again served on a bed of delicate seaweed in the clamshell. Delicious. A couple of mainstream sushi treats followed, broiled eel and Uni. The chef then recommended we try half an AJi, cut and presented with the bone. Once we'd eaten the fish the bone was taken away seasoned, deep-fried and re-presented. It was a crunchy delicious surprise. All this washed down with Karatamba cold saki, medium dry and very drinkable.back to the "kitchen sink" rolls for a minute; while we were at the sushi bar we watched a boatload of rolls being prepared, the presentation was spectacular and the party receiving them was thrilled with them. Next time we're in town, we will go back.

First visit to the FTL location. Been to the Deerfield Beach location many times. Small, but cute place. Not crowded at all on a Wednesday evening. Lots of choices from the menu. I had a couple of rolls and the miso soup. Soup was a bit thin, not the best I have ever had. The rolls were fresh and good. Friendly service. Hope this places gets busier and sticks around.

My friend and I came here early on a Thursday night around 6:30 pm b/c there was a HEAT playoff game to watch and we didn't want to eat unhealthy bar food. We were the only table sitting when we got there, but there was one guy at the sushi bar waiting for takeout. And while we were there a couple people came in for takeout. By the time we left there was a total of 3 tables. Our waiter was not the best, I mean he was nice, we tipped him 20%, but there were obvious things he missed. Like we ordered a bottle of Sake, he didn't open the bottle, put it on the table, brought us glasses (never poured us a glass/ never came back to refill), and we had to ask for a bowl of ice to keep it cold. So like waiter presenting wine 101. And even with so little people in the restaurant his co-worker had to come by and refill our water glasses. So I'm docking a star for waiter training. They also started off w/ this spaghetti in soy sauce starter, it was not very tasty. Kill this idea, change to cucumber salad. The menu, this is what I was confused on: 1) The sheer size of it. It's like the cheesecake factory menu for sushi. It's overwhelming, I would suggest they scale it back a bit, there's just too many options. 2) There's sections that are duplicative, but that aren't grouped together. For instance, there's 2 sections for appetizers and 2 sections for soups? 3) It's not in ABC order. So they have photos of some of the dishes on the menu and to try and search the menu for what's in it, it's exhausting. And then of course there's your occasionally typos. For instance, I asked my friend 'what's atangy sauce?', she busted out laughing apparently it was supposed to be 'a (space) tangy' sauce - I was about to bust out 'the Goggle' for what atangy is. I will say there prices were impeccable and very fair. Side salads were $2 each, some rolls are under $7. Masamune has prices like $5.95 & $6.95 for basic rolls but goes up to $19.95 for a Lobster roll. Their hand rolls; however, were a little pricier than I expected most were priced at $3.95, we didn't order any. What we ordered: [see pix] 1) 2 salads-very good 2) hamachi yellowtail---A+ I would go back here just for this dish. 3) Heart Roll- very tasty, on the sweeter side, so we ordered a side of Sriracha --some like it hot 4) Sliced Octopus, over cucumbers with Sriracha (spicy or perhaps atangy sauce????)---- I did not like this at all, to be honest. It was like it was frozen and then they sliced it thin frozen, then waited a bit and served it. It was really fishy and had some crunchy ice crystals still. I would not order this, nor would advise anyone to. I'm going back for sure, b/c of the prices and the yellowtail!

I first reviewed this restaurant a couple months after they opened and I have loved it since day one. Since then, Masamune has gone through different changes- all of them good! The food is delicious. I've never been a fan of sushi but Masamune changed that. It wasn't until I started coming here that I have become addicted to it. They have a nice variety of rolls. I've tried most of them and love them all. I haven't had anything here that I didn't like. The staff is amazing. They're hard working and dedicated. Yoshi, Mikey, Sarah and Momo are all wonderful and give excellent service. I always feel so welcomed when I arrive. As far as the physical appearance, Masamune is small but very comfortable and beautifully decorated. And also very clean :) If you have never been to this little gem of a restaurant, then you are missing out. Masamune is my favorite restaurant and they offer excellent food and service. Take the time to visit and you will surely be impressed. My Recommendations: Appetizers- octopus bombs, edamame hummus Salads- Crab Avocado Salad, Hawaiian Ahi-Pole Specialty Rolls- US1, Aurora, Heart of Japan, Fire, Matsui-55 Regular Rolls- Dynamite, California, Spicy Tuna (I know I'm forgetting some but all listed above are some of my favorites)

I really like this place. Great Japanese food and an intimate vibe. The sushi chefs and skilled and friendly, and the waitstaff are great. I especially like their traditional Japanese style curry and their ramen. Sushi is quite good as well, and I usually finish with a nice slice of tempura cheesecake. One of my favorite Japanese restaraunts in the entire area!

Finally! A sushi restaurant we can call our go-to. Dining area is small and intimate, if there are 4 tables it feels crowded but it's never overwhelming. Staff is so friendly and helpful, always willing to recommend or clarify anything. It's such a comfortable environment that there's no hesitation to try something new. Food is always solid, their ramen is GREAT! Sushi is always fresh and wonderful, there are a lot of menu options. Iced green tea is delicious and pairs perfectly with anything we order. We had the mochi sampler once, it had green tea (our favorite), red bean, chocolate, vanilla and mango. Enjoyed them all! We definitely see ourselves becoming regulars here even though we live downtown and there are at least 10 places much closer to us. It's that good!

Okay, so my family whom is a great fan of sushi was a little disappointed when we sat down. We were told that we could not order a boat because they only had one sushi chef. It all when down hill from there. The chef that was there chatted to this one customer that was there.

Like a lot of non-Japanese obsessed with Japanese food and culture, I've always been amused by the idea of modernized western sushi restaurants. Somehow though, this place manages to successfully fuse both the traditional and modern aspects of Japanese cuisine in a rather refreshing way. The sushi is prepared wonderfully and their selection of exotic fish, imports, and great side orders really put you in a state of utter Japanese bliss. You know the craving I'm talking about. The satisfaction of Japanese culture all of us japanophiles long for on the weekends. I particularly recommend the crab cakes here. It's an extremely light dish (only two small crab cakes served) but it's incredibly tasty and worth the experience. My only critique was the menu oddly enough. Not the contents but the actual set up of the menu. Probably trying to copy modernized, simplistic menus of South Beach restaurants, the set up here was quite confusing and at first I couldn't tell if they serve sushi a la carte or not. After asking our waitress, she brought us an older, (but far more comprehensive menu with some of the more traditional Japanese dishes I was looking to try. Parking was a little iffy too. There's an alley that leads to the back of the restaurant for more parking (front parking fills up pretty quick), and I was honestly a little nervous leaving my car there. Other than that this is a premium dinner, so be prepared to dish out anywhere from $60 and up for two people. The place had great food, a lovely atmosphere, and was quiet.
